Robert Hudson Leeds Ltd produced the Victory range of skips after WW1. These ubiquitous narrow gauge wagons were exported all over the world.
On30: a "baby sister" for the Bachmann V tipper! This Hudson V-skip side tipper has a similar open frame and skip cradle style - so it will fit right in with its larger counterpart. A rake of them would be perfect behind your Gas Mechanical Critter.
NG7: the model closely follows drawings for the Hudson Victory 27cuft skip variant, with open frame chassis, outside journals, and an inverted U skip cradle. The kit can be built without any Kadee support if desired.
Wheels: kit is designed for commonly available 9mm, 9.6mm or 10.5mm diameter wheelsets with 26mm axles. Evermodel 10.5mm (HO 36") disc wheels and Kadee 9.6mm (HO 33") wheelsets were used in the pilot builds. The wheelsets run freely in Brass pin-point bearings which are included with the kit.
Kadee coupler support: the chassis has pockets for Kadee draft boxes, without growing the length. for the correct On30 "HO" height use Underset (47 or 147) couplers with 9.6mm wheels, and Kadee centerset couplers (5s or 148s) with 10.5mm wheels.
Hook and link coupling: for close-coupling within rakes, the kit includes hooks integrated with the chassis, and small links that are captive at one end. So the rakes, can be manually separated fairly easily without fear of loosing the links.
The chassis is built up mostly from laserboard components to give a tough resilient product, but keeping the detail of the prototypes. The wheels can be changed easily without fear of breaking the chassis (the pilot builds have had the wheels changed over many times).
The skip parts are also made from laserboard and have the correct rounded bottom profile and lip features. The 0.4mm material thickness keeps the fine lines and crisp features of the steel prototype skips, and yet retain the strength of the resin-impregnated material. They are tough wee beasties. Laserboard can also be "dented and dinked" for a beat-up look if desired, and it takes paint really well without priming. (in fact better not to)
Tipping action: the side tipping skips can tip!! If you weight the bottom with a false floor, below the fulcrum of the cradle, they also have a really useful self-centering action.
